Our last Step Outside Gardening Group of the year
It poured with rain in the morning and wasn’t looking too promising for our last Step Outside Gardening Group together this year, but luckily the weather was on our side and we were blessed with glorious autumn sunshine in the afternoon.
We were joined by special guest, Gary Jarman from Pageant Film Productions, who was filming us for our new Jolly film. He’s visited several of our Jolly Days interviewing guests and staff in order for the film to capture everything that makes the Jollies so wonderful.
We all got down to business weeding, harvesting and planting seeds for next year before sitting down for a well-earned rest and sampling Anni’s warming soups made with veggies we’d grown on our allotment. There was watercress and leek and a yummy butternut squash soup to choose from, accompanied by cheese scones made by Sandra, who also made some very tasty spiced shortbread. Celia, who sadly couldn't join us, kindly sent us a carrot cake which went down very well with a cup of tea. It was so lovely to enjoy the fruits of our labour together in such a delicious way.
Kate and Duncan, one of our volunteers, sang for us, Kate played her ukelele and Duncan his guitar – how lovely it was to be treated to music as we worked! We also thanked and celebrated the amazing Anni who has worked so hard on our 'Step Outside' allotment. Her experience as a gardener has been invaluable and made the allotment even better than it was. All our guests have thoroughly enjoyed spending time there, and we look forward to welcoming you all back in Spring 2025.
