Our Jolly Pop-Up Supper was a resounding success
The room buzzed with people chatting together, getting to know their fellow diners and sharing laughter. It was heartwarming to see our lovely community come together to support us.
Chefs, George and Jill from The Friendly Food Club, helped by Andrea in the kitchen, served up a delicious Eastern European-themed three-course meal.
We started with Ukrainian Borscht (beetroot soup), served with a sour cream and dill garnish and crusty bread. The main course was Ukrainian Chicken Paprika (with a green lentil version for the veggies), crushed pan-roasted potatoes with chives and pan-roasted savoy cabbage with caraway. Dessert certainly didn’t disappoint either - Slavic Sweet Pine Cones - luckily there wasn’t a real pine cone in sight! They were made from Polish fudge, puffed rice and sesame seeds, served with Chantilly cream, chocolate branches and fresh fruits of the forest. All of this deliciousness was followed by coffee and bitter mints… yum!
After dinner, we were spoilt with an entertaining and interesting talk from Michelin star chef Mark Treasure who was head chef at the Michelin-starred Feathers Hotel, Oxfordshire, and also the Museum Inn in Dorset. It was fascinating to hear his suggestions for ways to cook everyday food such as the humble cabbage.
George and Jill organised this dinner to raise money to fund the delicious lunches that they prepare for us at our Wimborne St Giles Jolly Days which bring so much enjoyment to the guests. Along with the profits from this wonderful event and the generosity of The Talbot Trust as well, we are delighted to announce we are able to now fund 13 more lunch sessions with The Friendly Food Club for which we are truly grateful as are our visitors.
A big thank you also goes to Debbie and Caroline for volunteering to help me with the waitressing.
