Our Wimborne St Giles Christmas Party
There are so many wonderful memories to share with you from our Wimborne St Giles Christmas Party yesterday that it’s hard to know where to begin! It was such a perfect afternoon and everyone had a really jolly time.
Stan ‘the reindeer’ greeted everyone as they arrived. He looked so cute in his antlers. Lots of people were wearing their Christmas jumpers and sparkly tops too, it was lovely to see everyone looking so festive.
Throughout the day Kate played the piano to get us all in a festive mood, you can take a listen to her wonderful playing in the short video here.
Lunch was a real feast cooked for us by George from The Friendly Food Club. We had the most delicious pheasant and there was an equally yummy nut roast for the vegetarians. Dessert didn’t disappoint either, stollen served with brandy custard and a lebkuchen chocolate heart, which won the approval of Hanna who’s originally from Germany, although we’re lucky enough to have her living here now.
Our placemats were extremely special as you can see from the photos. They were hand made by the pupils of Leehurst Swan School in Salisbury. Each one had a beautiful drawing on the front and a thoughtful, heartwarming Christmas message on the reverse.
After lunch, we were treated to a cookery demonstration by George. He showed us how to make posh brussel sprouts in a wok with bacon and chestnuts. Not a soggy sprout in sight and no bitterness either. Big tip – don’t cut a ‘cross’ in the top of your sprouts, cut them in half instead, and don’t par-boil them as you lose all the goodness.
This was followed by George’s Christmas quiz which was fun and informative. I think we all learned something new.
Then we were joined by Sue Old our local songstress who lives in the village and has a powerhouse of a voice. She treated us to some fabulous music. These videos show just how talented she is. It was such a joy to see so many people up and dancing. Bob cut an especially fine figure on the dance floor.
Afterwards, we enjoyed mince pies made by Sara, who also bought along the very popular Jaffa to see everyone. Christine especially loves Jaffa and was so happy to see him and give him a stroke.
Next, we had a pottery painting session, where we decorated tree decorations and lovely Father Christmas figures.
We finished the afternoon with a very entertaining version of The Christmas Carol narrated by Mary. Scrooge was brilliantly played by Carole and Mary played all the other parts as well as telling the story. It was the perfect end to a perfect party.
A huge thank you goes to all of the wonderful volunteers for a superb Christmas meal and a jolly good day.
