The Jolly Good Yarn
Handmade hearts, rainbows and all things lovely are starting to appear around Wimborne St Giles. It makes us smile every time we go out for a walk – we hope it brings a bit of joy to your day too!
Maybe you can hear the 'click clack' of busy needles when you are out and about on your daily walk? That’ll be the sound of ‘The Jolly Good Yarn’. It’s a collaborative knitting project and is the brainwave of Rachael, one of our lovely ‘Step Outside’ allotment support staff.
As a result of this burgeoning cottage industry, beautiful handcrafted items are popping up all around the village. Look out for the wonderful macrame banner of ‘HOPE’ outside the school door, the stunning decorations hanging from and around the tree near the Almshouses and the one outside our village hall. Also, be sure to take a look at the front windows of the village hall too, they look so pretty.
If your walk takes you a little off the beaten track you may find yourself stumbling across a little handmade heart here and there hanging from a branch, dancing in the wind.
A special mention to Angela Yonwin who has joined the 'Jolly Good Yarn' project and made over 80 smiley keyrings for all the children and staff at Wimborne St Giles School, they are just adorable. Angela also knitted these impressive twiddle mitts, specially made to comfort people living with dementia. These mitts will be delivered to Blandford Group Practice who need them for some of their patients. Well done Angela, amazing work!
If you would like to be involved in making lovely little decorations for our very special project - please do get in touch for more information. We can drop off spare wool and a printed pattern if needed. And you don't have to be experienced at knitting or crochet - sewn items or felting would also be fantastic. Get creative - this project is for all ages!
