Raring to grow!
We are so excited about our joint project with Wimborne St Giles School. We have wonderful new raised beds in the school grounds, and we are raring to grow!
Years ago there was a farm school in our village and all the school children were taught to garden and care for animals. In our own small way, we are attempting to recreate the spirit of this with our new project.
We want to say a big thank you to Margaret from the Dorset Gardens Trust who came along to present us with a cheque to fund the planting. You can see one of the pupils proudly holding the cheque in the pic below. That’s Margaret on the left, Mrs Hill, the lovely teacher, in the centre and me, Sarah, on the right.
Now we are busy working out what we’ll plant. One young pupil only wanted to plant carrots, carrots and more carrots. Mind you if we did do that we’d all be able to see perfectly in the dark! That’s where Brian, our very own ‘Head Gardener of the Raised Beds’, comes in. I’m sure he’ll get us planting a fantastic variety of delicious produce, and we’ll definitely make sure there are plenty of carrots 😀. Brian is one of our volunteers at our Jolly Days when we meet at the village hall. He used to have a big garden and misses it, so is keen to get growing as soon as we can. Kate, who you’ll also know from our Jolly Days (she’s the brilliant tinkler of the ivories) also came along to join us for the presentation of the cheque.
