MARCH NEWSLETTER

Welcome to this month’s round robin filled with all our latest news and the dates and times of all our March Jolly Days.

Lunch is Served

The Jolly Friendly Lunch delivery Service will be ending for this year at the end of the month.

We will have delivered well over 600 winter meals, lovingly prepared by the marvellous Friendly Food Club Chef George. Each meal delivered with a friendly chat from Kate, our amazing dinner lady. A big thank you to our funders who have supported this, we hope to do it all again next year as need is only growing.

‘Step Outside’ Garden Group

As Spring approaches, we are very much looking forward to the reopening of our ‘Step Outside’ allotments.

We have had a surge of interest in this group and people who come along can enjoy the outdoors together, there are always refreshments and sometimes even live music on offer. It is a way of getting all the benefits of having your own allotment, taking produce and flowers home but without all the hard work.

A big thank you

We are very grateful to Knowlton Parish Community Benefit Fund who are covering our hall hire costs for the next year for our Wimborne St Giles’ Jolly Days. Also thank you to Tesco Stronger Starts and Groundworks for their help with keeping all of our Jolly Days up and running.

A Jolly Important Person

Meet Eileen, who has been one of our Jolly Volunteers since April last year.

Eileen (pictured on the left here with another of our lovely volunteers, Pat) is an amazing volunteer who has lived near Wimborne St Giles for a long time and so knows may of our guests. Her smile and friendliness put people at ease. She has an instinct for knowing exactly what needs to be done at a Jolly Day and gets on and does it. She is a vital member of our team, and we love working with her.

Eileen grew up in Devon before moving to Dorset and her favourite subject at school was cookery.

She has enjoyed a very varied working life and her jobs have included working in a Bakery Shop, Egg Packing, Cleaning, waitressing at The Drovers and The Bull Inn in Wimborne St Giles, kitchen assistant at La Fosse and Cranborne Garden Centre as well as the Watercress Beds.

Our guests love chatting with Eileen at our Wimborne St Giles’ Jolly Days. She also helps serve up the delicious lunches and helps to tidy away afterwards. Eileen’s favourite thing about volunteering is meeting new people. She says “It’s a pleasure to be in their company and I enjoy helping those less fortunate than myself. I look forward to the Jolly Days and volunteering”.

We couldn’t do any of what we do or support the numbers of people we do without the help of our amazing volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, we currently need people to help at Jolly St Giles, West Moors and our Step Outside allotments at Kingston Lacy. We are also seeking volunteers who would like to enable our guests to take part in the activities on offer. We would also like to build a Jolly Fundraising Team. Whatever your talents, you will be much appreciated, well supported and part of a friendly team.

Do you know a business that’s looking for a charity to donate to?

If any of our readers work for a company or organisation that likes to give to charity – please consider In Jolly Good Company – all our funds go directly to improving the lives of the people we support.

We are reliant on the voluntary donations of our guests – but these have been badly affected by the increase in the cost of living. We are so grateful to The National Lottery for our funding as well as all our other funders – but this does not cover the whole cost of running our vital service.
